Rena Sofer’s Lois is a breath of fresh air.
Rena Sofer’s return to General Hospital as sassy fast-talking Brooklynite, Lois Cerullo, has reenergized the show’s mighty Quartermaine clan.
Rena Sofer: A Dynamic Entrance As Lois
Since arriving at the family’s mansion, compelled to visit after Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) was fired from Deception, Lois (Rena Sofer) has shaken up the “House of Q” in all kinds of good ways. Old rivalries are restored, friendships are intensified, and strong family connections are coming together. Her return has breathed new life into the soap.
Foes And Friends
The interplay between Lois and Tracy (Jane Elliot) has always been must-watch TV. Street-smart Lois can go head-to-head with the erudite Tracy, her sharp-witted comments often putting her in her place. It’s what makes the pair such entertaining adversaries.
Finally seeing the much-talked-about Lois and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) friendship in the flesh has been fabulous, too. The two actresses are so believable as lifelong pals, delighting in reconnecting again. And hearing their characters’ tales about their wild and crazy youth feels like a walk down Memory Lane that you were actually on.
Like Mother, Like Daughter
The instant bond between Sofer and Setton enhanced the story too. They were a bona fide and believable mother-daughter team from day one. You could immediately sense Lois’s protectiveness of Brook Lynn, and, in turn, Brook Lynn’s love and respect for her mother. Plus, at long last, viewers got to see where Brook Lynn gets her feisty streak.
Supercouple Past and Present
Last, but not least, watching Sofer share the screen with her real-life ex-husband Wally Kurth (Ned) again is magical. They were a soap supercouple back in the day and didn’t miss a beat getting back into form. The timing was perfect too, since Lois’s return came during Ned’s bout with amnesia. Having Lois be the one to help navigate “Eddie” toward getting his memory back, which ultimately reunited him with Olivia, was absolutely perfect.
