Fire Country’s Sharon star Diane Farr talks about how the conversation between Vince (Billy Burke) and his father Walter Leone (Jeff Fahey) will impact the rest of season 3, which sees Bode trying to pursue a career as a firefighter now that he’s a freeman. Walter comes back in Fire Country season 3 in support of his grandson, however, he gives Bode a cheat, which isn’t something that Vince can agree on. The two fight, and afterward, Vince returns home and finds that Walter has accidentally started a fire in their home.
Farr, who also produced the episode, told CinemaBlend that the conversation is pivotal for Vince and Walter because this is where Walter acknowledges that “he’s no longer in charge of the family,” but Vince doesn’t understand that yet. Walter’s last words to Vince about Bode having his grandfather’s fire leaves Vince thinking. Reflecting this moment, Farr confirmed that “the repercussions of that” will “play through the whole season.” Check out what she said below:
As soon as I got the script, I called Billy, and I said, “You’re going to be so excited. You have all the things, all the things that we talk about all the time. It’s all character and minimal incident.” That’s our dream as actors on a highly fire-heavy show. And he was asking and he was asking. And then when I got Billy and [Jeff] together, I basically said, “This is the changing of the guard. This episode is Walter acknowledging that he’s no longer in charge of the family, but Vince not really understanding it yet.” Like one generation can see what’s happening, and the next one can’t.
I was just so excited to show the vulnerability, and I think they were too. We all leaned into it, and the repercussions of that play through the whole season, like it never stops ending between exactly what you said, grandfather, father, son, and in a lot of it, I’m the witness.
What Farr’s Comment Means For Fire Country Season 3
Walter’s Visit Makes Vince Reflect On His Responsibility
Walter pays a visit to support his grandson’s first day as a firefighter in training and promises to cook steak dinner for Bode as a tradition, though his visit stirs up some problems in the Leone household. What Sharon said indicates that there are hidden intentions behind Walter’s visit. Even though he seems like the person who’s causing the fire in Fire Country season 3, episode 3, each line Walter said may be from a place with deep thoughts.
Sharon’s comment also suggests that there’s a change in dynamics going on in Walter and Vince’s relationship. Walter is stepping down from his role as someone in charge. Walter apologizes to Vince for setting their house on fire and clears out his intention. His last words to Vince remind his son about Bode’s potential as a firefighter and how he should also teach Bode to use it to his advantage. Though Vince has been trying to tame Bode’s fire, Farr’s comment suggests that Walter’s visit will likely have a big impact on how Vince approaches parenting in season 3.
Our Take On Vince & Walter’s Conversation in Fire Country
Walter’s Visit Is A Pivotal Moment For Both Characters
The conversation doesn’t end there, but instead will continue to affect the characters in Fire Country season 3. Vince and Sharon, as parents, are figuring out how to support Bode without over-parenting. They are trying to forge a new relationship with their adult son as he’s growing into his own person. This conversation is a pivotal moment for Vince in his realizing his responsibility as a father and a patriarch in the family, which means reflecting on the last generation’s mistakes and also his own.
There are many things that Vince does right as a parent, but other areas might still be an ever-evolving conversation in Fire Country. Walter is there to remind Vince about what he failed to see, while Walter’s mistake in setting the house on fire also reminds Vince that his father is someone that he needs to take care of.
