Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has found even more success with his latest cowboy/mafia drama, Tulsa King. The show centers around a mobster who is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma after finishing a lengthy prison sentence. After assembling a rag-tag crew of misfits, Dwight (Sylvester Stallone) seeks to build his own family and take over Tulsa. With the show’s success, there is much anticipation around the second season, which is further compounded by Paramount releasing very limited Tulsa King season 2 updates.
Although it seemed like Dwight and company would have a happy ending, the finale ended on a cliffhanger. Dwight was finally caught by the ATF/FBI. With the last scene of Tulsa King season 1 showing Dwight’s daughter Tina (Tatiana Zappardino) reliving her traumatic childhood by watching her father leave in handcuffs again, the ending left many questions unanswered. However, some good news is that Paramount+’s Tulsa King has been renewed for a second season. Here are all the latest Tulsa King season 2 updates audiences might’ve missed.
Tulsa King Season 2: Latest News
The latest updates on Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King season 2 suggest that fans should expect an even longer wait due to the Writer’s Guild of America strike. The ongoing strike has halted productions on a number of shows and movies that were set to start filming while also preventing any writing from being done to shows still in the writing process. Stallone himself confirmed that their show has been impacted as well, saying the strike is “definitely affecting work because we can’t move forward with a lot of projects, especially Tulsa King.”
While the strike will mean delays for the second season, Stallone also expressed support and sympathy for the writers. He acknowledged that the changing industry has made it a “scary time” to be a writer. He specifically points to the dire situation for writers on shows like his own, explaining “they work on, like, for our show [Tulsa King], eight episodes, and then you’re done, and that’s it. Like, ‘What do I live on for the rest of the year?’ sort of a thing. So I understand their plight.”
Tulsa King Season 2 Has Been Renewed
Tulsa King was renewed shortly after the first three episodes premiered. It quickly became Paramount+’s biggest hit after 1923, the Yellowstone spin-off starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. It also certainly helped that Tulsa King’s premiere episode drew a record number of new subscribers to Paramount+. At the time of publishing, there are no updates on when season 2 will start filming or indeed when it will be released. However, while Paramount itself hasn’t revealed any more Tulsa King season 2 updates outside the show being renewed, actor Martin Starr who plays Bodhi on the show said the following on February 2023:
We don’t have dates yet. I think they’re working out so many details. We don’t even know where we’re going to do it this year, or, this next season. So I’m excited to find out everything. I don’t think they’ve dug into scripts or anything yet. I could be wrong, but you know, the impending writer’s strike certainly would urge anyone to get moving.
Tulsa King Season 2: Release Date Predictions
Contrasting factors make it difficult to predict an exact date for the Tulsa King season 2 premiere. On one hand, after Paramount renewed the show for a second season after just a couple episodes – and given Martin Starr’s above February 2023 update – it’s possible that Tulsa King season 2 could release as early as this fall. On the other hand, alongside the above-mentioned impending writers’ strike, former showrunner Terence Winter leaving the show could push the release of the second season to 2024. Hopefully, Paramount will announce more Tulsa King season 2 updates in 2023 to clarify the show’s future for its loyal viewership.
Tulsa King Season 2 Cast: Who Will Return?
With the show’s success and most of the Tulsa King cast surviving the final season 1 confrontation, it is assumed all the key players will reprise their roles in the next season. This includes Sylvester Stallone as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, Andrea Savage as Stacy Beale, Jay Will as Tyson, Martin Starr as Bodhi, Max Casella as Armand Truisi, Dana Delaney as Margaret, and Domenick Lombardozzi as Don Charles “Chickie” Invernizzi. This year, viewers should also watch for any Tulsa King season 2 updates regarding any additions to the cast.
Tulsa King Season 2 Story Details: What Season 1 Set Up
Dwight and his crew were able to defeat a rival biker gang led by a local kingpin named Waltrip (Ritchie Coster), but he still has a few enemies lurking about. Stacy Beale, Dwight’s love interest throughout the first season, betrayed him and had him arrested during the finale. Stacy isn’t the only one gunning for Dwight, as he still has Chickie, the new boss of the Invernizzi family, plotting his revenge after being threatened by Dwight in the finale.
Despite Paramount’s lack of any more Tulsa King season 2 updates, Sylvester Stallone has stated that Tulsa King could be his swan song, and at the age of 76, he’ll likely want to capitalize on the success and film quickly. The success of the Tulsa King and Yellowstone-based shows has catapulted Paramount+ into a position as one of the premiere streamers, and they will likely go all out for the show’s second season. In fact, Paramount has said that they’re open to expanding Taylor Sheridan’s shared universe in Tulsa King, which could lead to spinoffs following season 2.
The Questions Tulsa King Season 2 Can Answer
Tulsa King season 2 has a lot of big questions to ask following the end of the first season. The biggest one is obviously Dwight’s fate after he is arrested in the Tulsa King’s season 1 finale. Given that Dwight just got out of prison after decades, he will not likely be too keen to return and will go to extremes to ensure he is not behind bars for the rest of his life. That also brings his relationship with Stacy into question. She was willing to bend the rules and put her career on the line for him only to betray him by turning him in. Will they rekindle their romance or are they enemies now?
There is also the question of who will step in as the new villain in season 2. Caolan Waltrip was an appropriately detestable and ruthless foe for Dwight to go up against, but in the end, Dwight and the others made short work of him. Chickie seems likely to step up as the next major threat after killing his own father to take control of the family business. Though Dwight was able to back him down, it seems unlikely he will forget and will come for everything Dwight built in Tulsa King’s next season.
Tulsa King Season 2 Trailer: Release Date Prediction
While the show has been renewed, the next round of Tulsa King season 2 updates may not yet include the trailer, which is likely to come out closer to the end of 2023 or the start of 2024. When the Tulsa King season 1 trailer was released, the pilot episode dropped two months later. This means that the trailer for the second season is likely to be part of the last leg of Tulsa King season 2 updates – a month or two before the second season actually streams on Paramount+.
