Susan Lucci is a fan of The Golden Bachelor.
Susan Lucci entertained millions of soap fans for parts of five decades as the irrepressible Erica Kane on All My Children. Reality TV played no small part in the hits soaps like AMC have taken over the last decade or so. Now, the Daytime Emmy Award-winning actress is revealing that she almost headlined a popular ABC reality series – The Golden Bachelorette.
We Love Lucci
Perhaps in response to older viewers wanting to find love, too, ABC launched The Golden Bachelor, which chronicled the story of Gerry Turner, a widower who was looking for a new love. He found one in Theresa Nist, but their marriage was short-lived.
In a recent interview with People, Lucci says that before ABC chose Joan Vassos as the lead for the upcoming Golden Bachelorette that an inquiry had been made to her camp.
“I believe that they contacted my publicist, and it wasn’t for me,” Lucci explained. “I watched The Golden Bachelor. I really enjoyed watching The Golden Bachelor. This is a new addiction for me.”
Lucci’s longtime husband Helmet Huber passed away in March 2022.
After AMC left ABC in September of 2011, Lucci has continued to appear in front of the camera, choosing her post-Erica Kane roles carefully. She did not appear in the 2014 AMC revival on The Online Network. However, she has taken on the roles of Genevieve Delatour on Lifetime’s Devious Maids, Shelley Waxman in Dangerous People, and the upcoming Jonah Hill directed film Outcome in yet-to-be-revealed role.
Last year, Lucci reunited with some daytime pals when she received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
People pointed out that neither ABC nor Warner Bros. comments on casting news. A source related to the shows shared with the online news magazine that Lucci was not offered the role. Might she be in the future? Stay tuned.
The Golden Bachelorette will debut when ABC’s new fall TV seasons begins later this year. It is set to air on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
