The GH actor also shares his Daytime Emmy nominated song.

William Lipton wasn’t at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards last week. However, he did attend the Creative Arts ceremony the following day. Soap Hub was on the scene and caught up with the actor to chat about his own nomination and what he’s been up to since last appearing on General Hospital as Cameron.

William Lipton: A Daytime Emmy Nominee

Lipton was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the category of Original Song. “I wrote a song [‘Darling Darling’] that was dedicated to Esme [Avery Kristen Pohl] at Trina’s [Tabyana Ali] party, and my band came on and played it,” Lipton says. (See our interview with Ali here.)

Hey! Isn’t Cameron Team Trina? “It was to bash Esme,” Lipton clarifies with a smile. “It was like a diss track. We’re not ‘Team Esme!’” The actor hastens to add it’s a different story when it comes to Pohl. “Avery is the coolest. It’s always the nicest people playing the [baddies].”

It was a case of art imitating life when Cameron left Port Charles earlier this year to study at Stanford while Lipton pursued his music studies at college in real life. He just finished up his junior year. “Which is crazy,” he says, “because I started General Hospital when I was a sophomore in high school. I just entered our winter recess. It was a long semester, a good season of finals and stuff.”

The actor/musician is grateful that he’s been able to perform on GH. “I really love how General Hospital has been able to incorporate different art styles into the show,” Lipton says.

The actor/musician didn’t take home the gold this year (Jennifer Nettles did for the American Anthems song “Life Is Sweet,” which she performed at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmys). However, he’s thrilled that GH won the statuette for Outstanding Drama Series.

“Big congratulations to General Hospital for winning the gold,” says the actor, who was also over the moon about his pal Eden McCoy (Joss) winning the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama Series. “It’s so awesome to see someone you’ve grown up with get the recognition that she deserves.”

There’s no official word on when we’ll see Lipton back on GH, but the actor is on a break from school, so stay tuned!
