One of Hollywood’s most renowned filmmakers, Clint Eastwood has directed and starred in numerous blockbuster movies and TV shows. Best known for his top-rated movie Unforgiven, the 93-year-old actor-director has bagged several Oscars with his brilliant acting and directing, establishing a finely reputed and respected position in the industry.

However, while Eastwood has had his fair share of superhit movies, he got the opportunity to star in the 4.2 out of 5 rated Sylvester Stallone movie, The Expendables 3 with Harrison Ford and Stallone himself. Still, the director joked about maybe directing the film instead.

Clint Eastwood Was Offered To Star In The Expendables 3

Clint Eastwood has starred in several super-hit movies throughout his over 70-year-old career. So, it didn’t quite come as a surprise when news claiming Sylvester Stallone wanted Eastwood to star in his ever-expanding movie series The Expendables 3 floated around. Among other top-rated actors like Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes, Stallone didn’t want to leave out the badass Oscar winner.

However, as it turns out, Eastwood had other plans for himself. When asked about Stallone’s plan to cast him into the third part of the action franchise, the then-82-year-old filmmaker said,

“He does? Probably not. I’m probably more apt to direct something. Maybe I’ll direct Expendables 3. I haven’t had the opportunity to see [The Expendables] yet. I haven’t read any material.”

Turning down all hopes of seeing him in the third installment of the series, the actor-directed joked about directing the movie instead. But this too slipped from his hands, as another director swiped his chance.

Clint Eastwood Never Got Around To Direct The Third Installment

Although Sylvester Stallone was willing to give his all in for his idol Clint Eastwood to star in his action movie series, he also admitted to his dream being just a dream, doubting if the casting would ever happen, saying,

“Well, you know Clint is so involved with what he’s doing, so that’s kind of a pipe dream.”

Judging from Stallone’s choice of words, it seems clear that Eastwood was only allowed to star in The Expendables 3 and not direct it. While it remains a mystery whether the Unforgiven director actually wanted to direct the movie or if he was merely joking around, the movie instead went to Patrick Hughes, who created the movie into a much-loved masterpiece.
