Tom Cruise recently received the US Navy’s Distinguished Public Service Award, the highest honor the Navy bestows on civilians. The prestigious award was presented by the US Secretary of the Navy, Carlos Del Toro, at an official ceremony held at Long Cross Studios in Chertsey, Surrey, UK.
The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary service, acts of valor or heroism on behalf of the Navy over a long period of time. In addition to the award, Cruise was presented with a medal, which symbolizes his continued service and support of the United States Navy.
Cruise’s contributions extend far beyond the silver screen. His iconic portrayal of Navy pilots in “Top Gun”(1986) and its sequel “”Top Gun: Maverick”” (2022) brought the Navy’s mission to audiences around the world, inspiring countless individuals who serve.
During the ceremony, Cruise expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition. Speaking to Secretary Del Toro, he said:
“I admire you. I’ve been around you, I’ve seen how much you care about your men and women. And I have so much respect for you. We’ve known each other for so many years, and I really appreciate that. I appreciate everyone here. I appreciate your time and this extraordinary recognition.”
