Home and Away star Lynne McGranger has faced criticism for getting involved in the battle for this year’s Logie awards.

The annual Australian television awards announced its 2024 nominations last month, with nominees for the prestigious Gold Logie including The Morning Show host Larry Emdur and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! presenters Julia Morris and Robert Irwin.

Following the announcement, Irene Roberts star McGranger showed her support for her Channel Seven colleague Emdur by commenting on an Instagram post he shared, in which he revealed a jokey text he’d received from a friend that said, “I’ll be voting for Robert Irwin, but congrats on the nom.”

McGranger shared her thoughts about the nomination battle on the post, commenting, “I’m sorry but ol’mate Irwin has been on telly for a bloody minute!! No disrespect intended.”

When Emdur replied, “Are you starting an internet feud, Lynne?”, McGranger came back with, “Could be, honey.”

Following the exchange, I’m a Celebrity host Morris has told Yahoo Lifestyle that, while she appreciates McGranger’s support for Emdur, she was disappointed by her comment about Irwin.

“I understand that people aren’t exposed to people from other networks very often,” she said, adding: “So I totally get the sentiment of Lynne where you want to protect and fiercely fight for the person that you adore, but it’s not appropriate to call out somebody else at someone else’s expense. And Lynne knows better than that.”

However, the presenter made it clear that she still has respect for McGranger, calling her “a fantastic woman”.

“She’s been around the industry for a long time, she’s an incredibly talented actress, and I think her passion for wanting Larry to take it is where that comes from,” she said.

McGranger’s character Irene has been involved in a major storyline in recent weeks, after she welcomed seemingly vulnerable newcomer Bronte Langford into her home after meeting her at a hospital.

Irene has been under the belief that Bronte has a terminal illness, but Bronte has in fact been cruelly scamming kind-hearted Irene – and UK fans will see the situation get even worse this week after a poisoning incident at the Diner.
