Ada Nicodemo’s life was changed when she woke up one morning in “so much pain” and was forced to go under the knife.
Home and Away star Ada Nicodemo has opened up about how she suffered a life-altering injury.
The 47-year-old Aussie actress is known for playing the role of Leah Patterson on the beloved soap.
During the most recent episode of the Bounce Forward podcast, the star revealed how she was forced to completely change her exercise regime following a painful injury.
She told personal trainer Tiffiny Hall how she was left in excruciating pain after suffering with a herniated disc in her spine.
She also revealed the rather bizarre way she ended up with the injury; by sneezing.
“I had an injury — now don’t laugh — about a year and a half ago I sneezed,” she explained to podcast host Tiffiny. “I woke up in the morning to go to the gym at 5am and I was in my dressing room getting changed and I perforated a disc. I was in so much pain!”
The actress was forced to undergo surgery in a bid to help alleviate the issue, and she now suffers from a permanent life-altering symptom.
Speaking on her podcast she said: “I had to have an operation, I still have a numb foot on one side and it probably will never heal properly. I think I’ve damaged a nerve.
“But it really made me rethink a lot of things I was doing because I’ve always been fit, I love to exercise, for my mental health now I’ve realised.”
She added: “I was a machine, I’d spin and then box, all that sort of stuff, then I got into heavy weightlifting as well. Now, I’m like I’m never doing a deadlift again in my life. I can’t run because I will break my ankle because I have a numb foot.”
It comes after the star confirmed that she is in a relationship with her Home and Away co-star James Stewart.
News of the pair’s rumoured romance first hit headlines in early May, just days after Nicodomeou’s split from Adam Rigby, her partner of eight years, emerged. In a new interview with Stellar magazine published Sunday, the Australian actor confirmed, “Jimmy and I are together, yes.”
“At 47, you know what you want and what you don’t. It’s only early days,” Nicodemou added.“It’s very recent and very unexpected. I’m super happy. It’s really lovely.”
