NCIS season 21 finale left everyone on the hook waiting impatiently for another installment to finally reveal what the future holds for the MCRT after Jessica Knight’s inevitable departure. The latest season’s ending made it pretty clear that Knight might not leave the entire show for good, yet her position will definitely get vacant once she starts her career on the other side of the country.
While NCIS has nothing yet to tease about its upcoming season and all the changes it will bring, all of Jessica Knight’s potential successors seem to have one peculiar detail in common.
Should Jessica Knight step away from being a part of the MCRT, her duties will be taken over by someone who will come into a fully refreshed team with another leader at its helm. Right up to season 19, the MCRT was navigated by its invariable supervisor, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, until he eventually decided it was time for retirement which he was longing to spend in Alaska.
Gibbs was then replaced by Special Agent Alden Parker who, while being pretty much different from his predecessor, still managed to set a right direction to the team’s further work.
Now that the MCRT is about to go through another big change with someone new taking over Jessica Knight’s position, it seems like the eventual new team member will face a big challenge.
All of the current Special Agents have spent years working with both Gibbs and Parker as their leaders while another character making their way to the show after Knight’s departure will have no experience of collaborating with either of them at all.
Though there’s already no way to tell how things would go between a newcomer and Gibbs as the latter officially quit the show (but his younger version will soon be back in the upcoming NCIS spinoff), chances are the series will give a fully new perspective on Parker who will have to establish relationship with Jessica Knight’s successor from scratch.
With all the myriads of fans’ suggestions about which character from the NCIS universe will be a worthy Knight’s replacement or whether the show will introduce someone completely new, there’s probably no chance to get a sneak peek into it all until NCIS season 22 eventually hits CBS.
The series’ next installment is set to arrive on CBS this fall.
