Pom Klementieff’s ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ Villain Was Inspired by Bruce Lee, Clint Eastwood, ‘Kill Bill’
Ahead of “Dead Reckoning Part One,” Klementieff spoke to Variety about her character in the film, for which she worked closely with Cruise and writer-director Christopher McQuarrie to develop the backstory.
In addition to talking about how she “manifested” the opportunity to be part of the franchise, she revealed the panoply of influences — from Jean-Paul Belmondo to YouTube animal videos — she tapped into to make sure audiences never forgot Paris.
When asked, ”What movies did you watch for inspiration before getting into the action?” Pom Klementieff responded:
”Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite directors, so of course I always watch ‘Kill Bill.’ I looked at Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and some French films, because it’s not just about the fighting and the physicality — it’s also about the way the character moves.
I was inspired by Jean-Paul Belmondo’s films to find the swagger of the character. And Clint Eastwood, Takeshi Kitano, all these beautiful characters who barely speak but convey so much emotion.”
