He’s a celebrated and award-winning actor, and now, Ian Buchanan, perhaps best known as Duke Lavery on General Hospital and James Warwick on The Bold and the Beautiful, is celebrating something more!

Happy Birthday, Ian Buchanan

That’s because the actor was born on June 16, 1957, in Hamilton, Scotland, which means this handsome star is turning 67 today. While visiting Spain, a photographer noted Buchanan’s striking good looks, which later led to his successful modeling career.

He hit the soap scene in 1986 when he was cast opposite Finola Hughes (Anna) as Duke Lavery on GH. Duke literally filled Anna’s dance card when the two shared a passionate tango, and a supercouple was born.

Alas, Buchanan left the show, and subsequently, a character named Jonathan Paget (played by Greg Beecroft) came to Port Charles. It was later revealed that he was Duke (which turned out to be false), and then that character died.

Fast-forward to 2012, when viewers learned that Duke (played by Buchanan) was actually alive! It’s a testament to the actor’s popularity that fans gleefully welcomed him back into their living rooms after a 23-year absence.

In between his runs as Duke, Buchanan played James on The Bold And The Beautiful (which he won a Daytime Emmy for), Dr. Greg Madden on All My Children, and Ian McCallister on Days of our Lives.

In primetime, Buchanan has appeared on Twin Peaks, The Nanny, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, and Columbo. In his Columbo episode, Buchanan’s character killed the one played by Deidre Hall (Marlena, DAYS).

Recently, he was heard as the narrator in the film A Mermaid For Christmas, which also starred Arianne Zucker (Nicole Walker, DAYS), Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe Lane, DAYS), and GH’s Kathleen Gati (Liesl Obrecht), amongst others.
