Marvel and Disney have released a new teaser for the highly-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which offers fans their first glimpse of Sylvester Stallone’s returning character, Stakar Ogord. The one-minute-long clip also features the High Evolutionary’s ship breaching the surface of a large body of water and the big bad himself, played by Chukwudi Ewuji, powering up violently.
Stallone first appeared as Stakar Ogord, one of Yondu’s original teammates, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The Hollywood actor revealed his return in November 2021 by sharing a photo of himself doing a 3D facial scan session. Shortly after, he posted another photo of himself in full costume, although it has since been deleted.
It remains to be seen what Stakar Ogord’s role will be in the upcoming third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Fans of the comics will notice that the MCU’s take on the character bears little resemblance to the more abstract and high-concept version of the original hero. However, if Stakar is back, there is a good chance that the rest of his teammates will follow, including Ving Rhames’ Charlie-27, Michelle Yeoh’s Aleta Ogord, Michael Rosenbaum’s Martinex, Miley Cryus’ Mainframe, and Krugarr. The High Evolutionary looks like he will be quite the challenge, which could mean that the Guardians of the Galaxy need a little backup.
The teaser also offers a glimpse of Nathan Fillion’s cameo, but no context is given as to what his role may be. However, fans can look forward to finding out when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases on Friday, May 5.
This highly-anticipated film is being directed by James Gunn, who helmed the first two installments of the franchise. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be the final installment of the trilogy, although it is uncertain whether there will be future films featuring the Guardians team.
The third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has been highly anticipated by fans. With the new teaser offering tantalizing glimpses of returning characters, excitement for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is only set to increase in the months leading up to its release date.
