While the success of the movie “Top Gun: Maverick” has just cooled down, action star Tom Cruise continues to surprise fans with information about his new film project.
The 62-year-old veteran Hollywood actor is said to have collaborated with director Doug Liman – who is known for the success of “The Bourne Identity” – on a new film project. Accordingly, this film will have scenes filmed in space. The work was first planned for 2020, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was forced to be postponed.
Tom Cruise and Doug Liman are said to have contacted Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG) about an idea that would take the actor to the International Space Station.
Is Tom Cruise the first actor to film in space?
“I think Tom Cruise is going to take us into space, he’s going to take the world into space,” UFEG President Donna Langley told BBC News. “That’s the plan. We have a fantastic project in development with Tom Cruise. It’s to take him to the space station to film,” UFEG President added.
Langley revealed that the majority of the film will be shot on the ground, with the climax being “the character going into space to save the world.” She hopes Cruise will become “the first civilian to explore space outside the space station.”
If the film is completed, Tom Cruise will be the first movie star to film in space on the International Space Station. Although this move is unprecedented in history, according to Deadline, this is not too surprising for Tom Cruise fans. The 60-year-old actor has long had unusual ambitions when it comes to action scenes. Even when he’s taking on dangerous stunts at the age of 60, he still doesn’t use a stunt double on set and does it himself.
On Tom Cruise’s 62nd birthday in July, “Mission: Impossible” director Christopher McQuarrie shared a rare photo of the actor performing a dangerous stunt.
In the image, Cruise can be seen dangling from a red plane in the air with little assistance. He made headlines when he was injured on the set of “Mission Impossible 6” in 2017, with leaked video showing his “death-defying” jump from a skyscraper. Just a few months later, he was back on set in London filming his stunts.
Tom Cruise was recently asked at the Cannes Film Festival why he chose not to use a stunt double. “No one asked Gene Kelly – an American actor who can sing and dance well – why he dances,” the actor replied.
