The premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is one of the most anticipated film events at Cannes (France) this year, even though the film is not in the competition category.

According to Deadline, the organizers of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival have officially confirmed the special premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – the eighth installment in the blockbuster action series starring and produced by Tom Cruise.

The film will premiere out of competition on May 14 with the main cast and director Christopher McQuarrie on the red carpet.

The end of the legendary Mission: Impossible
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning marks the next collaboration between Tom Cruise and McQuarrie – the duo who created the success of many previous Mission: Impossible installments.

This is also considered Tom Cruise’s farewell to one of the most classic action film series in Hollywood. The script, co-written by McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen, puts agent Ethan Hunt on a mission to survive against his most dangerous enemy yet: an artificial intelligence called the Entity.

Following the events of the previous film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning follows agent Hunt, who now holds the key to destroying the Entity.

However, to do so, he must reassemble a team of veteran associates to track down a sunken Russian submarine – where the only source code capable of destroying this AI entity is hidden.

In addition to Tom Cruise, the film’s main cast includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Mariela Garriga and Angela Bassett.

The official trailer for the film was also released yesterday, promising a thrilling atmosphere, eye-catching action scenes and a topical story when exploiting the threat of artificial intelligence. According to experts, Paramount’s choice of Cannes to launch the media campaign for The Final Reckoning is not surprising.

Tom Cruise had an impressive debut with Top Gun: Maverick at Cannes in 2022, contributing to the film becoming a global box office phenomenon. Before that, he also attended Cannes in 1992 with the film Far and Away directed by Ron Howard.

In parallel with the event in Cannes, Tom Cruise will also be present in London in the previous days to receive the BFI Fellowship – a noble honorary award from the British Film Institute – and participate in a meeting with the audience. At the recent CinemaCon, the actor also introduced some scenes from The Final Reckoning and held a touching moment of silence for Val Kilmer – his late co-star in Top Gun.
