Action superstar Tom Cruise is still working hard to play his role, almost dying many times while filming Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
In an interview with Empire magazine, Tom Cruise revealed his “near-death” experience when he fainted many times due to lack of oxygen while performing dangerous scenes on the plane in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the final film in the Mission: Impossible action series.
Tom Cruise continues to break the limit
This remarkable scene was filmed in South Africa, where Tom Cruise hung from the wing of a 1930 Boeing Stearman at an altitude of 3,048 meters. In the trailer, the audience witnessed the breathtaking moment when spy Ethan Hunt hovered in mid-air, did a flip in the air and returned to the cockpit.
“When you stick your face out of a plane at over 200km/h, you don’t get enough oxygen. I had to train myself to breathe, but there were times when I passed out and couldn’t get back into the cockpit,” Tom Cruise shared.
Throughout his career, Tom Cruise has repeatedly wowed audiences with his daring stunts, and even at the age of 62, the actor still risks everything to deliver the most realistic scenes.
He climbed the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, held his breath underwater for six minutes, performed hundreds of skydives, hung from the outside of a plane during takeoff, and even experienced G-forces in a supersonic fighter jet (in Top Gun: Maverick).
Director Christopher McQuarrie said The Final Reckoning will take the action sequences of the series to a new level. “This movie has stunts that will blow your mind. During his days in Africa filming Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Tom did stunts that were beyond anything audiences had ever seen before,” director McQuarrie revealed.
One audience member at a preview even shared that they “almost had a heart attack” while watching a tense action scene. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning continues to follow the character Ethan Hunt played by Tom Cruise as he confronts a dangerous AI program called The Entity, which can predict his every move and could cause disaster if it falls into the wrong hands.
After escaping a catastrophic train crash at the end of the film, Ethan discovers that The Entity is hidden on an old Russian submarine, but an enemy from Ethan’s past, Gabriel (Esai Morales), is also pursuing him.
