Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One co-stars freak out as he does the movie’s motorcycle cliff jump. Ethan Hunt and his trusted allies return on the big screen for the first time since Mission: Impossible — Fallout. Aside from the movie’s narrative, another big thing to look forward to in every single Mission: Impossible installment is its incredible stunt work.

The Easter egg-laden Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One features a couple of great action set pieces, but its biggest one sees Cruise ride a motorcycle off a cliff. The clip offers a look at what the stunt actually looked like while filming. Understandably, Cruise’s co-stars are both thrilled and anxious, with Benji actor, Simon Pegg, quipping that this always happens in every single Mission: Impossible movie.

Why It Will Be Difficult To Continue Mission: Impossible Without Tom Cruise

In 2022, Cruise revisited his most iconic role as Pete Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick. While the Joseph Kosinki-directed sequel was focused on Maverick, it also introduced a string of new elite pilots such as Goose’s son, Rooster, played by Miles Teller, and Hangman, portrayed by Glen Powell. This means that if Paramount wants to continue building the Top Gun franchise, the studio can move beyond Cruise’s Maverick because he has two clear successors who can front the series moving forward. Unfortunately, doing this with Mission: Impossible is much more difficult.

Currently, the action-spy series is confirmed to have at least one more installment in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two. There have been rumblings that this will be the final piece in the franchise, with theories that it may see the end of Cruise’s Ethan. However, the actor himself has teased his plans to continue playing the daring operative for several more years. While this is possible, there will eventually come a time when he will have to retire the role. By then, Paramount would likely not have any choice but to also end the franchise because there’s simply no other actor who can execute the movies’ signature stunts other than Cruise. Granted that they can utilize VFX to do them, but they just won’t be as thrilling and exciting.

How long Cruise can still effectively play Hunt is unknown after Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One. That being said, with no plans of slowing down anytime soon, he may be able to spearhead the franchise until a 10th movie. He may need to be extra meticulous with choosing which projects to prioritize, considering the clamor for Top Gun 3 as well.
