Sylvester Stallone, the man who the world knows as Rocky Balboa had a great idea for a sequel to one of his classic movies. In 1989, the actor starred alongside Marvel star Kurt Russell in the movie titled Tango & Cash which was loved by audiences worldwide.
In recent news, Stallone wants to make a sequel to the 1989 hit and asked Kurt Russell to join him again in a reprisal of their roles. Kurt Russell is quite hesitant about the idea since according to his talks with Sylvester Stallone, the actor considers himself quite old and in his “unprime” now.
When Kurt Russell Rejected Sylvester Stallone’s Offer
In 1989, the world was delighted to see Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell starring alongside each other in Tango & Cash. With a genre of action/comedy, the story followed two police officers wrongly framed for a murder.
The film was very well received by the audience so much so that Stallone asked Kurt Russell to reunite for a sequel to the classic movie. In an interview, the Rocky actor revealed that he is very excited to make a sequel to Tango & Cash but only if Kurt Russell were to return alongside him. As far as the details are concerned, The Thing actor has refused Stallone for a sequel and his reason is quite genuine.
According to Stallone, Kurt Russell denied the offer by stating that they were in their prime during that time (1989) but now they are old and will not be able to create as great of a movie as they did back then.
“I would do Tango & Cash in a second. I know, with Kurt [Russell], it’s not about a caper…it’s just us doing our thing. [But Russell said] ‘I don’t know, Sly…There we were in our prime and now we’re in our unprime, I dunno.’ So I said, ‘Kurt, I’m telling you, ya gotta go in on this.’ So he said, ‘I’ll talk to you when I get back.’”
As is the case with age, Sylvester Stallone is indeed finding it difficult to work on sets in these present conditions. Talking about Tulsa King which stars Stallone in the lead role, the actor recalled it as quite a terrible time!
Sylvester Stallone Had A Terrible Time Shooting Tulsa King
Following the launch of the series, Stallone made appearances in interviews for the promotion of Tulsa King. Starring in the lead role of Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi in the series, Stallone recalled a tough time shooting it and stated that filmmaking was easier than this!
“I can’t believe some people have done this for four, five or six seasons. It’s brutal, compared to filmmaking. I’ll never say, ‘This is a hard shoot’ again on a feature. It’s a vacation compared to this! It really is.”
The actor is, however, prepared to take further measures since Tulsa King has already been greenlit for a second season. As for the 1989 sequel, Tango & Cash is available to rent from Apple TV+ in the U.S.
