The shocking news that Yellowstone would cease after season 5 surprised viewers of the Paramount Network series on May 5. The news was confirmed by Variety, who also noted that part 2 of the show’s episodes would run in November rather than its initial premiere in the summer of 2023. Months of rumors that Kevin intended to depart the Taylor Sheridan-produced drama preceded the surprise announcement, according to Deadline, which also stated that the actor suggested “to spend a week shooting” the final six episodes.

Although Kevin didn’t speak out about Yellowstone ending, he did break his Instagram silence about Horizon: An American Saga, the project he’s currently directing and starring in. “The epic that keeps getting more epic,” he wrote on May 1, uploading a screenshot of a Deadline article announcing Glynn Turman, Kathleen Quinlan and Giovanni Ribisi joining what The Salt Lake Tribune describes as a four-film franchise.

When fans noticed Kevin breaking news of his latest movie online, they started reacting in the comments section. “Please don’t leave @yellowstone,” one person pleaded on Instagram. “Please don’t quit Yellowstone. You make [our] lives better with this show. There is no Yellowstone without you,” a different user begged. “I’m sure this will be great however can you please let us know if you are seeing Yellowstone out or what??” another follower asked.

Even though it’s still unknown if the Dances With Wolves actor will continue with Yellowstone, he’s not keeping quiet about it. Kevin initially discussed the project with Variety in June 2022. It would explore a 15-year span in time during America’s Western frontier and “focus on both the settlers as well as the Indigenous groups that first occupied the land.” The four movies, which are now being produced over the period of eight months, were also covered in his explanation of the filming process.

“It’s a really beautiful story; it’s a hard story,” he explained. “It really involves a lot of women, to be honest. There are a lot of men in it, too, but the women are really strong in Horizon. It’s just them trying to get by every day in a world that was impossibly tough … They didn’t ask to be in these territories that were unsettled and dangerous, and life wasn’t easy. I’ve chosen to make sure that was really obvious.”

What’s more, the Hatfields and McCoys alum noted the significance of the project to People in November 2022. “Horizon is incredibly meaningful to me. It’s really been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s exactly what I want to do,” he told the outlet. “I wrapped this first one, and it took everything I had, but I’m holding on to the rope and not letting go.”
