Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Release Updates, Cast, And Everything We Know So Far

It’s going to be a long time until Yellowstone season 5 part 2 hits Paramount Network. We just updated our release prediction for the new episodes after recent news from Kevin Costner.

The Yellowstone season 5 part 2 news is heating up again, and in September 2023, Kevin Costner broke his silence on his exit from Yellowstone. A few months ago, Taylor Sheridan shared his take on what’s going on with Yellowstone season 5 part 2. Let’s get into it!

Yellowstone season 5 premiered on the Paramount Network on Nov. 13, 2022. Fans got to watch eight new episodes of the series before the first half of the season came to an end on Jan. 1, 2023.

Since then, it’s been a WILD RIDE, to say the least, and fans are getting anxious about the return of Yellowstone. I can’t even begin to describe all of the rumors we heard about the future of Yellowstone. We thought we would be getting Yellowstone season 5 part 2 in the summer of 2023, but that release estimate is long gone by now. The reason for this is the reported tensions between Kevin Costner and production.

We shared everything we know about Yellowstone season 5. As we learn more information, we’ll update this story. The latest update was on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023.

Is Yellowstone season 5 part 2 out yet?

As of September 2023, Yellowstone season 5 part 2 has not been released. There’s been some confusion with the Yellowstone promos lately, so we wanted to take a minute to clear up what’s going on.

With the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes, there’s not as much scripted TV ready to air. CBS will air episodes of Yellowstone season 1 on Sundays throughout the fall to release the show to a broader audience. So far, the series has only been available on the Paramount Network and Peacock.

When is Yellowstone on CBS?

Yellowstone season 1 makes its broadcast debut on CBS on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 8:30 p.m. ET. You can watch the new episode after 60 Minutes airs, which is after NFL football. The start times might get a little wonky, but just be prepared to tune in on Sunday nights around 8:30 p.m.

Has the Yellowstone season 5 part 2 release date been announced?

Unfortunately, we don’t have a firm release date for Yellowstone season 5 part 2 yet. The season’s second half was supposed to premiere in November 2023. However, due to the behind-the-scenes issues, as well as the writers’ strike and the actors’ strike, the premiere date has been delayed once again.

Initially, it looked like it could premiere in the summer, but then we learned that filmng was not even slated to begin until summer, and it was clear the series would follow the same pattern for release as previous seasons. Season 4 and the first half of season 5 also premiered in November in their respective years.

As of September 2023, the writers’ and actors’ strikes continue, which means nothing is going to be filmed until that ends. It’s also unclear if Sheridan has written the episodes for season 5 part 2 yet.

Unfortunately, we’re in for a long wait for Yellowstone season 5 part 2. This is a show that can turn around episodes quickly, but it’s going to take at least six months after the strikes end until Yellowstone season 5 part 2 premieres.

If the strikes were to end tomorrow, we could expect to see Yellowstone season 5 part 2 in the spring or summer of 2024. With no news about the strikes ending, it’s probably going to be summer or fall 2024 at the earliest that we see any of the second half of Yellowstone season 5.

Release Prediction: Summer 2024

When is Yellowstone season 5 episode 9 coming out?

Yellowstone season 5 episode 9 is the first episode of season 5 part 2! There was some confusion about how many episodes were in each part of the season. We shared how the season is split up below, but the ninth episode of the season is technically the season 5 part 2 premiere.

Yellowstone season 5 part 2 has not been filmed

As of August 2023, production on Yellowstone season 5 part 2 has not started yet. In an interview with People, conducted before the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike, actor Luke Grimes shared that filming hadn’t started because of the writers’ strike. With the actors union now also striking, it’ll be some time before production can get up and running.

Will Kevin Costner be in Yellowstone season 5 part 2?

A lot of those rumors about Yellowstone season 5 part 2 have been about star Kevin Costner and his availability. As far as we know, Costner will return for Yellowstone season 5 part 2, but not in a full capacity.

We do know that it’s been reported that Costner will not return for any future episodes after the end of Yellowstone season 5. That’s the last we’ll see Costner in Yellowstone if the reports are true. It doesn’t seem right that Yellowstone and Costner would ride into the sunset like this, but that’s to be determined. Sheridan spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Costner’s exit recently:

My last conversation with Kevin was that he had this passion project he wanted to direct. He and the network were arguing about when he could be done with Yellowstone. I said, ‘We can certainly work a schedule toward [his preferred exit date],’ which we did.

But since part 2 hasn’t even started filming yet, we’re not sure if Costner filmed those scenes that they were able to agree on. How Costner will leave the series is potentially still in the works, but Sheridan knows John Dutton, the character Costner plays, won’t be killed in a car crash, according to THR.

“I don’t do f***-you car crashes. Whether [Dutton’s fate] inflates [Costner’s] ego or insults it is collateral damage that I don’t factor in with regard to storytelling.”

As for his opinion on Costner, Sheridan told the outlet the following:

My opinion of Kevin as an actor hasn’t altered. His creation of John Dutton is symbolic and powerful … and I’ve never had an issue with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work out on the phone. But once lawyers get involved, then people don’t get to talk to each other and start saying things that aren’t true and attempt to shift blame based on how the press or public seem to be reacting. He took a lot of this on the chin and I don’t know that anyone deserves it. His movie seems to be a great priority to him and he wants to shift focus. I sure hope [the movie is] worth it — and that it’s a good one…I’m disappointed. It truncates the closure of his character. It doesn’t alter it, but it truncates it.

Why Kevin Costner is leaving Yellowstone?

From the looks of things, there are a few reasons Costner is reportedly leaving Yellowstone. As mentioned, Costner is starring, directing, co-writing, and co-producing Horizon: An American Saga, a four-part movie series. That is rumored to be why Costner was trying to work out the filming schedules for Yellowstone season 5 and Horizon.

In addition, Costner, while in court over child support proceedings, shared a few more reasons why he’s leaving Yellowstone. According to People, Costner told the court he was in negotiations to return for Yellowstone season 6, but he was offered less to return.

Here’s what he told the court, via People:

“We tried to negotiate, they offered me less money than previous seasons, there were issues with the creative…”

It’s still unclear exactly how Costner will leave the series, if he’ll return for Yellowstone season 5 part 2, or what the future holds for Costner’s role in Yellowstone. Something tells me we’re far, far, far away from any resolution.

Will Lainey Wilson be in Yellowstone season 5 part 2?

The country artist, whose music has been featured several times in the series, is open to returning in the final leg of the show to reprise the role of Abby. In an interview with Rob + Holly, which was released Aug. 14, 2023, she said the following:

I talked to Taylor Sheridan the other day and there’s a plan. Now we just gotta see if that plan happens. I laugh and say, ‘they didn’t take me to the train station,’ so, we’ll see what happens on that end. I told him, I said, ‘Give me the green light,’ we gon’ be smack dab in the middle of touring, but we’ll figure it out.

So, if it’s up to her, she’ll be back for Yellowstone‘s last ride.

Will Matthew McConaughey be in Yellowstone season 5 part 2?

There’s been a lot of chatter about Matthew McConaughey joining Yellowstone. As of August 2023, nothing has been confirmed. It’s definitely possible that McConaughey could appear in Yellowstone season 5 part 2, especially if he’s going to star in the upcoming Yellowstone series.

Sheridan commented on McConaughey’s potential involvement in the interview with THR, which claimed McConaughey is in negotiations to make it happen. Here’s what he said to THR:

“He seems like a natural fit. We had a few conversations over the years, and spitballed a few ideas. Then he started watching Yellowstone and responded to it. He was like, ‘I want to do that.’ And by ‘that’ he meant diving into a raw world clashing up against the modern world. And then I said, ‘Buddy, that we can do.’ “

It would be interesting to bring McConaughey’s character into the final season of Yellowstone, which we’re going to discuss shortly, but there doesn’t appear to be any plans to do that right now. Not public plans, anyway.

We’ll keep you posted on the status of McConaughey joining Yellowstone season 5.

Will there be a Yellowstone season 6?

Yellowstone season 6 is officially not happening, and Yellowstone will end after season 5. At first glance, that looks like bad news, but it is not.

There’s a new Yellowstone series in the works from Taylor Sheridan

There’s a new Yellowstone show in the works. It’s expected to continue the story of the Dutton family beyond Yellowstone season 5. As mentioned, Matthew McConaughey is rumored to be involved with the project, as well.

We don’t know much about where Yellowstone is going from here, but we’re also waiting on Taylor Sheridan’s other shows set in this universe, including 1923 season 2, 6666, 1944, and more.

How many episodes are in Yellowstone season 5?

We all thought that there would be 14 episodes in Yellowstone season 5. That’s confusing for fans who think season 5 is already over and we’re waiting on season 6.

Actually, we’ve seen the first eight episodes of Yellowstone season 5. Those episodes aired on Paramount Network in November through January. The remaining episodes have not aired yet, as of June 2023.

Sheridan clarified in the interview with THR that he has not decided the episode count yet, and it will be determined at a later date. Here’s what Sheridan told THR:

“If I think it takes 10 episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me 10. It’ll be as long as it needs to be.”

Where to watch Yellowstone season 5

Right now, you can watch the first four seasons of Yellowstone on Peacock. You can also watch the first eight episodes of Yellowstone season 5 on Peacock, as of the end of May 2023.

If you’re trying to get caught up on Yellowstone before the return of the series, Peacock is the best and easiest way to catch up. Every episode of the series that has aired so far is available to stream on Peacock.

When is Yellowstone season 5 coming to Peacock?

It’s hard to say when the remaining episodes of Yellowstone season 5 will be added to Peacock. It all depends on when the season premieres, obviously. Usually, you can expect to watch new episodes of Yellowstone on Peacock about six months after they air on Paramount Network.

That’s what happened with the first half of Yellowstone season 5. The season premiered in November, and it was added to Peacock in May 2023. For season 4, which premiered in November 2021, the full season was released on Peacock in April 2022.

That’s what we know so far about Yellowstone season 5. Stay tuned for more information about the final episodes.

Will Yellowstone season 5 air on CBS?

Unfortunately, it looks like Yellowstone season 1 is the only season that will air on CBS in the fall of 2023, but that doesn’t mean that CBS won’t air the later seasons.

It’s unlikely that Yellowstone season 5 will air on CBS, though. That’s a lot of episodes, and hopefully, the strikes are long over by that point and we’re getting new CBS shows instead of Yellowstone re-runs.
