Yellowstone star Luke Grimes, who portrays Kayce Dutton, suggests that Season 5 would probably be filming right now if not for the strikes.

Yellowstone star Luke Grimes recently suggested that production on Season 5 should resume shortly after the conclusion of the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

During an interview with People, which took place before the SAG-AFTRA strike began, Grimes revealed that filming on the second half of Season 5 had not yet begun “because of the writers strike.” He added, “I think we would be if it weren’t for that. But that takes precedence over everything. They got to get that all sorted, and then we’ll be getting after it.” Yellowstone Season 5B was originally supposed to air on Paramount Network in Summer 2023 but was indefinitely delayed due to scheduling conflicts with series lead Kevin Costner.

The fifth season sees Costner’s John Dutton prepare for political war as he takes office as the governor of Montana. Unfortunately, fans may not see Dutton’s story come to a clean conclusion, with Costner not expected at this time to film any new scenes for the back half of Season 5. However, there are reportedly ongoing discussions to try to convince the actor to film a few scenes to wrap up his character’s storyline. A sequel spinoff series, potentially starring Matthew McConaughy, is in early development and will continue the present-day Yellowstone storyline.

Yellowstone Prequel 1923 Also Delayed

Yellowstone isn’t the only series in the growing franchise to be delayed. According to the Butte Civic Center manager Bill Melvin, production on the second season of the prequel series 1923 has been pushed back “indefinitely.” The Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led Paramount+ series was originally scheduled to begin filming at the Butte Civic Center on June 5. However, Melvin was notified earlier this month that the WGA strike has halted production. It is currently unknown when 1923 Season 2 will commence filming. The production is reportedly paying $75,000 a month to use the Civic Center through the end of 2023.

Yellowstone Season 1 Heads to CBS

With the writers’ and actors’ strikes halting film and television productions, networks have had to rework their upcoming fall schedules. CBS has opted to acquire the first season of Sheridan’s acclaimed neo-Western drama series and air it this Fall on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. At this time, it is unknown if the Season 1 episodes will be edited for television to remove swearing and nudity. Other Paramount shows heading to CBS in the new TV season include FBI True and another show to be announced at a later date.

Yellowstone Season 5 premiered on Paramount Network on Nov. 13, 2022. No release date for the season half of the season has been announced.
