The actress had a few storyline ideas for the GH attorney with a dry wit.
Carolyn Hennesy has always been a commanding presence on the screen since her arrival in December of 2006 to Port Charles as the no-holds-barred attorney, Diane Miller. Originally hired for a three-day stint on General Hospital, the actress held her own against the daytime drama’s powerhouse performers, such as Maurice Benard as her top client, Sonny Corinthos, and Nancy Lee Grahn as her bestie, Alexis Davis. The actress certainly has ideas of what she’d like to see Diane tackle next.
Carolyn Hennesy: A Dream Storyline For Diane
The Daytime Emmy award-winning actress is clearly not lacking in charisma, but her character is suffering from a deplorable case of a drought in exciting storylines. Recently, fans were teased with a possible budding romance between DA Robert Scorpio and the feisty attorney, but scenes are few and far between as of late. Hennessy shared with the fans gathered on a recent Zoom Event hosted by Coastal Entertainment what her dream storylines for Diane would be.
The fiery redhead started off with the obvious. “Well, it would involve Robert. And it would involve a romance, of course.” She described how they could make it interesting for the audience. “You kind of come apart, you push them back together again, and then pull apart and push together again. You know, like monkey bread.”
More importantly, Diane Miller’s life story needs to be examined. Hennesy explained, “I’d really like to explore where Diane came from. What’s her past? How many unknown children? Does she not even know she has one of them?” She even had a bold suggestion for a possible offspring. “Of course, [with it] being Spinelli. I would love to explore her back story, and I’d love to have a child come into her world and have to have her explain it to her new boyfriend, Robert.”
The actress grew animated as more ideas came to mind. “I would love to explore her path. I’d love to make it something really fun. Funny and different.” Hennesy mused a very colorful past life for the hard-nosed attorney. “I would love for her to have had this absolutely obscure other life where she might have done, you know, stage in London, or she was an archaeologist, or perhaps she was a prostitute. Perhaps she had a brothel in New Orleans. Let’s say she got through law school doing things that just can’t be shown on television.
“I would also love to bring in more of the singing because I’m singing now. I’d love to have that,” she continued sharing storyline possibilities. Even the ones dreamed up with other cast members. “I’ve always said, and Nancy [Lee Grahn] agrees with this, that Alexis and Diane should become cat burglars and, you know, have to go to some foreign country and work for the CIA or work for an international spy ring.” That might be one way to bring Scorpio and Diane together. Perhaps, the writers are listening. The fans certainly were.
