1923 is a Western TV series on Paramount+, which serves as a prequel to the hit series Yellowstone and a sequel to 1883, another prequel set in the same universe.
Currently it consists of a single 8-episode season, though it has been already renewed for Season 2. It boasts a quite impressive cast, with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren playing the main roles.
But writing for the first season might not match the acting talent which Paramount managed to attract.
In particular, Episode 8 left a lot of people thinking that there must be more episodes in the season, because it lacked all the things people generally associate with a proper season finale, and just cut to credits seemingly in the mid-story.

A lot of the more savvy Redditors also agree that the ending was poor and confusing. A number of people think that the season’s story warranted about 10 episodes, and probably its initial outline was based on expecting a 10-episode season.
After all, 10 episodes is the standard season length for both Yellowstone and 1883. Some even believe that Season 1 of 1923 got broken into two parts, with some episodes which originally belonged to it to be aired later.

The mood is not improved by the fact that no one knows when Season 2 is going to air. Hopefully, near the end of this year, but as filming had not even began, there is no certainty regarding that.
All in all, Taylor Sheridan and his scriptwriters better have to up their game, unless they want 1923 to get into trouble, on top of the conflict which threatens the main Yellowstone series (and which we’ve covered multiple times before).
