No, Brooke Shields is one of the rare celebrities these days not resting on nostalgia. Instead, the film and TV star has recently immersed herself in a range of wildly different projects, from the cult horror film Midnight Meat Train to the cult comedy show Impractical Jokers, to the Adult Swim show Mr. Pickles, which is about a literal Satanic cult.
When Shields does look back on her storied career, it’s with introspection, like in the recent two-part Hulu documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields. In talking about her life, Shields has recalled stories that are sometimes difficult, sometimes funny, and sometimes sweet. In one case, literally ‘sweet,’ as Shields revealed that she used to receive a coconut Christmas cake from Tom Cruise, a gift that’s nothing to be glib about.
“I was on the list for a while,” Shields told People. “I had a good 10-year run, and I got the coconut cake every year, which I was very happy [about]. It was from [Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes] and Suri, so it was the three of them, and then soon it was no Suri and no Katie and just Tom,” Shields added. “Then it went from just Tom for a while, but not every holiday. And then the cake stopped.”
Readers might be surprised to hear that the busy Top Gun: Maverick star even has time to put thought into a thing like Christmas cakes, but you don’t have to look too deep to find that, when it comes to little acts of kindness toward friends and coworkers, Cruise cares so very, very much.
People reports that “Cruise is known to send the $126 bundt cake made by Doan’s Bakery in Woodland Hills, California every year to his famous friends.” As for Shields, it’s been a while since she’s gotten a cake, but according to People, she’s hoping to get back on the Mission: Impossible star’s gift list:
“I want to get back on that cake list. It’s the best cake,” Shields says with a laugh. “Tom, I need to be back on the cake list.”
