‘Yellowstone’ Fans React To News That The Show Will End After Season 5

Yesterday, we learned the news that Yellowstone will reportedly be ending after the second half of season five, after a “well-placed” production source” leaked the news to the New York Post.

It truly is sad, especially since the show was reportedly supposed to last seven seasons, but it appears that the alleged scheduling conflicts in filming between Kevin Costner (John Dutton) and the show has taken its toll over the past few months.

However, we still have a lot to look forward to in the closing half season, as we are now pretty convinced that Kevin Costner will be making an appearance on season five, and we also have the Matthew McConaughey spinoff series that was confirmed a few weeks back.

Not to mention the second season of 1923, a 1940s-era spinoff in the works, the Bass Reeves prequel and more coming down the pipeline.

So, I guess the questions remain…

Will Costner get killed off the show at the beginning of the second half of season five? Or will he get a “ride off into the sunset” moment? Will they be able to take down Market Equities and the vile Sarah Atwood? Will Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) murder each other?

There is still a lot to look forward to, as much as it hurts to know that this wild ride is more than likely coming to an end.

But, that doesn’t change the fact that there are a bunch of Yellowstone fans who aren’t happy with an abrupt ending, yet there are also a bunch who agree with the move.

Many took to this Reddit post to share their thoughts on the situation:

“That’s fine. At least end the show properly and then move on to the other ones in the universe. Would have killed the whole series to stop half way through S5”

“When you get to the point where your main character is the governor in a non-political set show, then it’s time to end.”

“Dumbest plot line of all time. Like you just decide to be Governor one morning.”

“Sheridan has too many irons in the fire and became a prima Donna. I believe Costner did make himself available but Sheridan was not ready because he was writing/producing like five shows.

This is sloppy and the show has suffered for it. He needs to remember you can lose your golden boy status just as quickly as it was given to you.”

“Not that it surprises me, but Sheridan sounds like a real egomaniacal D-bag. I’m sure Costner is no peach either. Costner tells Sheridan when he’s available, Sheridan doesn’t have any scripts because he’s too busy writing 5 other series, and Costner says well screw you then, I’m going to go do my own thing.

It also explains why they can’t even move forward without Costner, if they wanted to. They have nothing to shoot.

And although Costner gets all the attention here, if this is what’s going on, I’m willing to bet that Costner isn’t the only actor frustrated by Sheridan at this point.”

“The characters are caricatures of themselves at this point. They’ve basically neutered Kacey all season, Jamie is a simple, insecure, city boy—all bad. Beth is a ridiculous 80’s action hero who can ONLY exist in fantasy worlds where no consequences, laws, or even ppl who can fight a 130lb woman exist.”

“For me I think it may have already ended.”

“Season four was so bad I almost stopped watching.”

“Disappointed but not surprised… this show deserved a lot better than everything after season 3.”

“Season 5 just really went in the wrong direction. Feels like a different show.”

“I don’t know why it has to end without John Dutton. Kill him off and the next season could be his family seeking revenge. It would be fire.”

“It’s about damned time. I loved the fist 3 seasons of Yellowstone but I have grown tired of the endless offscreen drama, poorly written shows and Monica.”

“I have to say that I believe this show has run its course.”

Welp… we’ll see.
