1923 star Brandon Sklenar reveals why he was disappointed about season 1’s long voyage home storyline for Spencer Dutton. History was made when iconic movie star Harrison Ford joined the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s 1920s-set Yellowstone spinoff. As dramatic as things became for Ford’s character Jacob Dutton and his wife Cara (Helen Mirren) however, the show’s true breakout characters proved to be Sklenar’s Spencer Dutton and his own bride Alex (Julia Schlaepfer), who experienced their own harrowing adventures in Africa while bloody things were going down for the Dutton clan back in Montana. 1923 season 1 left things on a major cliffhanger, with Spencer trying desperately to get back to his family in the United States, setting up a huge potential reunion in 1923 season 2.
While season 1 and its split narratives made for great drama and a terrific cliffhanger ahead of 1923 season 2, the experience of being far from Montana proved disappointing for Spencer actor Sklenar, as it meant he didn’t get to have any scenes with his small-screen father Ford. Appearing recently at a Q&A for The Wrap, Sklenar admitted he was looking forward to working with Ford in 1923 season 1, and was sad to find out that wasn’t going to happen (around 23:06 of the video). “I was telling all of my friends ‘I’m going to act with Harrison Ford, this is the coolest.’” Sklenar said, adding, “Yeah, he’s Harrison Ford, and I was bummed.”
Brandon Sklenar Should Get His Harrison Ford Wish In 1923 Season 2
As 1923’s fans await the story’s continuation, the expectation is that Spencer will make it back to the Yellowstone at some point during season 2. Indeed, Cara Dutton star Mirren has predicted that the anticipated Dutton family reunion should happen fairly quickly, telling Deadline:
I think Spencer’s gonna show up pretty quickly. I got the sense that Taylor was really imaginatively attracted to Spencer’s adventures, which were great for the audience, I thought. He made a great storyline, which was really beautiful to watch. I hope Spencer comes home soon, though. I dunno how many more letters I’ve got in me.
When Spencer finally arrives in Montana, it will not only be a dramatic thing for viewers, it will also mark a huge moment for Sklenar, who will finally get his wish to act in at least one scene with Ford – assuming of course that always-secretive Yellowstone creative force Sheridan doesn’t have a huge twist in mind. It would indeed not be entirely out of character for Sheridan to pull the rug out from under the audience and have Ford’s Jacob die before Spencer makes it back to Montana. Jacob was of course alive and back on his feet at the end of 1923 season 1, but danger continues to lurk everywhere thanks to Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) and his efforts to gain ownership of The Yellowstone. 1923 season 2 does not yet have premiere date from Paramount+.
