A first look of “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” has been released. The latest Taylor Sheridan creation tells the story of the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River. The anthology series, created by Taylor Sheridan, stars David Oyelowo as the titular real-life lawman.

“Yellowstone” fans rejoice.

“Reeves (Oyelowo), known as the greatest frontier hero in American history, worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded. “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” is an anthology series with future iterations that will follow other iconic lawmen and outlaws who have impacted history,” according to a Paramount+ press release.

“Bass Reeves” spent most of its time filming in North Texas, from Weatherford and Glen Rose, to Stephenville and Strawn. Production began in January and wrapped in early June.

The series is the latest show to hit the small screens from Sheridan for Paramount+, joining the two “Yellowstone” spinoff shows “1883” and “1923,” along with “Tulsa King,” “Mayor of Kingstown” and “Special Ops: Lioness.”

“Lawmen: Bass Reeves” will launch on Paramount+ sometime this fall.
