The living legend revealed that one actor’s incredible body of work will make him the greatest star of our time.

According to Eastwood, future generations won’t be talking about highly acclaimed actors like Daniel Day Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio or Mark Rylance. Nor will they remember box office titans like Will Smith, or this year’s highest-grossing actor The Rock.

It may be Risky Business or even a Mission Impossible to try and predict these things, but Eastwood reckons that in 100 years the actor everyone will remember is the Top Gun himself, Mr Tom Cruise.

The accolade was revealed by Hollywood director Cameron Crowe, who was talking about a conversation he had with the Dirty Harry legend.

Crowe told website Film School Rejects: “Clint Eastwood said, ‘100 years from now and more, people will look back on this generation of films, and the guy who will standout more than anyone else will be Tom Cruise.’

“Coming from Clint Eastwood, like, a foot-and-a-half away from you telling you that, I couldn’t wait to tell Tom that.”

Crowe explained why he also agrees with this assessment.

The director worked with Crusie on Jerry Maguire and Vanilla Sky and was full of praise for his leading man.

Crowe added: “I think it’s true. You could create an argument for a number of other actors, but I don’t know anyone who’s built this kind of body of work in movies that will stand the test of time, and I would be honored if one of our movies was a part of that.

“He’s done so many different, time-defining projects.”

Eastwood is currently promoting his new film.

Sully tells the real-life story the daring pilot who landed a passenger plane on the Hudson River in New York in 2009, saving 155 lives.

Tom Hanks plays Chlesey Sullenbereger and the film also stars Aaron Eckhart and Laura Linney.
