When Yellowstone debuted on Paramount Network in 2018, no one expected the Western drama to develop as big of a following as it did.

Week after week, folks tuned in to see what’s going on with the Dutton family and all the drama that follows them. Each episode delivers a juicy storyline, whether it be about patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner), or his kids and their spouses: Jamie (Wes Bentley), Beth (Kelly Reilly) Kayce (Luke Grimes), Rip (Cole Hauser) and Monica (Kelsey Asbille). It’s a wild ride that viewers never want to end, but things can’t stay the same forever.

For the last few months, people have been clued into the behind-the-scenes drama involving the show’s future. Between Kevin and show creator Taylor Sheridan’s tension about if Kevin will stay on the show, the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes causing production to stop and the news of Matthew McConaughey starring in a Yellowstone spinoff, it’s leaving people to wonder whether the hit series will continue past season 5 part 2. What’s more, some are even yearning for the show to make a grand announcement revealing that season 6 may be in the works.

Despite the hopes some viewers may have about Yellowstone continuing on, we have disappointing news…

Will there be a Yellowstone season 6?

We hate to burst fans’ bubbles, but Yellowstone will not return for season 6.

Rumors began to swirl in February that the show would end after season 5, with Deadline sharing that it may have had to do with disagreements between Taylor and Kevin over a filming schedule. At the time the news broke, Kevin was working on a multiple-film movie franchise titled Horizon: An American Saga, and reportedly he and Taylor got into some disagreement around filming the latest episodes.

Three months later on May 5, Deadline got an answer to the speculation and announced that Yellowstone would inedeed end after season 5 part 2. According to the outlet, the show was meant to air the final episodes in November before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes put it on pause indefinitely. Meaning: even with the ongoing strikes, Yellowstone still would not return for season 6.

While this show in the hit TV franchise will end soon, it doesn’t mean Yellowstone is over forever. Fans can still watch the prequel shows 1883, 1923 and the upcoming Lawmen: Bass Reeves to get their Yellowstone fix.
