Jon Hamm recently had the pleasure of shooting a Tom Cruise movie, and he wants everyone to know what a wonderful time he had.

During an appearance on Club Random with Bill Maher, which now has an exclusive partnership with The Arena Group and is featured on Men’s Journal, Hamm shared details about working alongside the Knight and Day star in Top Gun: Maverick.

As the two discussed a variety of other actors in the industry, conversation shifted focus to Cruise, specifically, with Maher wondering how the Mad Men alum’s casting came to be and if Cruise called him personally with an invitation to work on the film.

He didn’t, unfortunately. But the action star did call him after he accepted the role to express his excitement, Hamm revealed to host Bill Maher.

“I remember when I said yes to it,” he shared. “I got a call very soon after that saying, ‘I can’t wait to make this movie with you.'”

Hamm recalled that this was a pleasant surprise, given how few scenes his character was featured in. But still, Cruise still took the time to reach out and tell him, “I can’t wait to do it.”

Maher assured his guest that the few scenes he appeared in were “good ones,” prompting Hamm to add, “I loved every minute of it.”

It sounds like Cruise was the main reason for his positive experience, with Maher explaining, “Tom Cruise is not the kind of guy who doesn’t…look after every detail in a movie.”

“There is nothing on set that Tom doesn’t want there,” Hamm confirmed. “It is what he does so well. He curates an experience.”

Hamm later revealed that Cruise even acted as a mentor to the new actors on set. “I watched how he took care of all the younger actors,” he noted, “and was very aware that, [for] a lot of them [it] was maybe their first movie—certainly their first major motion picture.”

Reflecting on the other end of the spectrum, where more seasoned actors are sometimes like, “F–k you, figure it out,” Hamm assured that Cruise “was not that guy.”

All around, he said, Cruise is “delightful.”

As for what fans can expect out of the podcast? Maher exclusively told Men’s Journal, “My one job on Club Random is to have a good time with zero agenda. It’s complete stream of consciousness. I don’t know where it’s gonna go—or where it’s gonna end.”
