It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for the return of beloved Western drama series, Yellowstone. In May 2023, Paramount shared that the fifth season of the show is the last. That means we’re now waiting for the final batch of episodes to wrap up the story. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait a bit longer. Is Kevin Costner leaving Yellowstone?
In June 2023, showrunner Taylor Sheridan did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter where he revealed that Kevin Costner is most likley not coming back as John Dutton in the final episodes. Though the outlet does mention that there’s discussions to try and get Costner back for a few scenes to complete his character’s story. This really doesn’t come as a surprise after all the behind-the-scenes tension that was reported with the actor asking for less filming time to focus on his other projects.

Why isn’t Yellowstone season 5 part 2 coming in September 2023?
Yellowstone season 5 part 2 is not coming in September 2023 for two reasons. The first eight episodes of the fifth season aired Nov. 13, 2023 and came to an end on Jan. 1, 2023. Since then, fans have been waiting for the second half of the season to come out. There’s two reasons why the show hasn’t returned.
First, filming on season 5 part 2 was delayed because of rumored tensions behind the scenes due to lead actor Kevin Costner reportedly asking for less filming time so he can focus on writing, filming, and starring in his movie, Horizon. Production on the series was pushed as the team had to figure things out.
Then, Paramount shared that Yellowstone season 5 part 2 was finally supposed to come out in November 2023. However, now filming hasn’t even started yet due to the strikes. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) unions went on strike in May 2023 and July 2023, respectively. That means no writers or actors are currently working on projects.
When is Yellowstone season 5 part 2 coming out? (Release date predictions)
At this time we don’t know when Yellowstone season 5 part 2 is coming out. Because of the nature of strikes, it’s hard to tell when they will come to an end. While the WGA has had a few meetings with the union representing the studios, no agreement has come about yet. So the writers strike is still happening. SAG-AFTRA has not met with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) yet. This means that the actors strike is still going on as well.
